Creating my 'tied up' alphabet

We were briefed as a task in the typographic design project to produce an alphabet constructed from an object of our choice. I chose my broken chain necklace which had a bow on it to add a pretty addition to the piece. By dangling it onto the surface and creating the letterforms in lower and upper case I produced an alphabet from them.

Below are the letters a b and c before editing them. I used a viewpoint to make them in so they were all pretty much a similar size ...

These are a - c in uppercase

These are a - c in lower case

I then took these photographs into Photoshop ...

This was my final pronted to A3 which I named 'tied up' because it appeared it was tied by the ribbon.

Very pleased with my outcomes as it met the tasks brief as well as being an effective piece

Self Promo - producing the final outcome

For my self promo project I got a merit. To increase this grade I decided to re-visit the project and develop it to a higher standard to achieve a higher grade. Alongside various tasks the main part I developed was my final outcome (postcards) these were aimed to promotes myself as a designer. Below is the outcomes.

I developed them all but decided to choose 8 for the finals (shown below)

Below is my favourite one
This is my favourite of Em and I. In the Shepard fairly style self portrait

This is the back. I chose to alter the typeface chosen before to a more personal and favourite don't that represents me. I chose 'into the vortex' because it is one of my favourite ones as well as on my shop logo and business card.

I then developed these a step further and created a promotional pack including these postcards and my own postcard and business card design.

Narrative project - Through The Looking Glass

As an added extra task for my narrative project I also decided to create a
Design for two narratives. Along side my princess and the pea design I decided to create something for one of my other favourite childhood stories "through the looking glass". Process below...

Laid out paper ready for the print

From a pre laid out type deisgn created on the mac I cut out by hand an Alice in wonderland type with the question asked in the narrative. This will then be flipped over and printed so that the type is backward and you have to hold it up in a mirror to read it, as if you were in looking glass house.

With a brush I stipples the ink on it. (Photo above and below)...

Final

Narrative project - The Princess & The Pea

As part of our narrative project, we were briefed to create a final design based on one narrative of our choice. I chose to study the princess and the pea because this was one of my favourite books as a child. Below is my process of my final design...

I firstly chose all my fabrics and cut them down to A5 size. I doubled them up and turned up the edges. By facing them toward each other and seeing the inside out It allowed me to wad them and turn them back around to have them the correct way round once finished.

I then created smaller bits of fabric for the type to be printed on and sewed those onto the centre of each side (these would be the mattresses of the story as well as the pages).

This is all of the pages before they were stuffed.

First word done
White pen added for detail

Partly finished

Alongside the book I decided to place it inside a box (as if it were an exepensove duvet) and Hand illustrate the box exterior with floral type and ornamental patterns. Above is the final lid design.

I then sewed the pages together in two sets of three to hold them into place for when they are in the box.

And then sewed the two sets together.
