Narrative project - The Princess & The Pea

As part of our narrative project, we were briefed to create a final design based on one narrative of our choice. I chose to study the princess and the pea because this was one of my favourite books as a child. Below is my process of my final design...

I firstly chose all my fabrics and cut them down to A5 size. I doubled them up and turned up the edges. By facing them toward each other and seeing the inside out It allowed me to wad them and turn them back around to have them the correct way round once finished.

I then created smaller bits of fabric for the type to be printed on and sewed those onto the centre of each side (these would be the mattresses of the story as well as the pages).

This is all of the pages before they were stuffed.

Partly finished

Alongside the book I decided to place it inside a box (as if it were an exepensove duvet) and Hand illustrate the box exterior with floral type and ornamental patterns. Above is the final lid design.

I then sewed the pages together in two sets of three to hold them into place for when they are in the box.

And then sewed the two sets together.

Final book ready to be folded and placed inside the box.
